Talking Toasters: My First Podcast Appearance
Every New Year’s Eve Kelly and I reflect on our favorite moments, meals, and new people met in the previous year. One person we had in common on our respective 2025 lists was Molly Smith, the warm, hilarious, and engaging cohost of “Did That Age Well?”, a podcast that invites guests to reflect on and converse about a film from their childhood.
Kind & Funny earned a second appearance after Kelly’s podcast debut in Episode #177 about the film Girls Just Want to Have Fun, and Molly asked me if I’d like to be a guest while we were at a Kind & Funny art opening in our underground gallery at the Denver Nook real estate office where my friend Winnie was in attendance.
Winnie is turning 10 soon, and the daughter of my friend and college roommate Rob. Along with her dad, her cool sister Harriet, and her mom/my amazing Euchre partner Shannon, we all see a lot of movies together and also do a lot of highly organized taste tests and judgments of things like root beer and ribs.
I figured that to get a complete picture of whether the film aged well we needed to hear the informed opinion of someone in the film’s target demographic, and so I invited Winnie to join me for part of the conversation. Also, even though Molly is the nicest host possible, I was nervous and it was nice to have a friend with me to go through the experience together. (Personally, I think she steals the show.)
I thoroughly enjoy conversing with Winnie (and really her entire family) because I always learn so much, like about octopuses and the treat-and-repeat process of dog training and about KPop Demon Hunters, and also because we get to laugh a lot. And talking to Molly is super fun, plus the podcast setup at Dude, IDK Studios in Denver set up by producer Nick made everything feel special and professional.
You’ll get to see/hear that on the podcast I hope, so without further ado here is Episode #194 “Did Brave Little Toaster Age Well?” starring host Molly and guests Jed & Winnie (and if you need to watch the movie, I think it’s on YouTube):
